Kevan, New York, ca. 1815-1825 38"h x 12-1/4"w x 5-1/4"d Provenance: Israel Sack Inc., New York; Sotheby's, 'Selections from Israel Sack, Inc.', January 22nd, 2002, Lot 1215 Literature: Israel Sack Inc., 'American Antiques from Israel Sack Collection', vol. IX, P6145, p. 2532 Note: Based on a 1802 patented design by Simon Willard, this richly ornamented clock features a thermometer inscribed by S. Kevan, New York. A similar example was sold at Sotheby's on January 18th, 2001, Sale 7590, Lot 571 (See Sotheby's catalogue). Early 19th C. New York City directories list a Samuel Kevan as a master slater and stoneworker at 60 Clarkson street (near Washington street). Kevan was a Scottish immigrant.
